STEPHEN
M. HANNEMANN
If Jason Brisben, hero of DEATH of a WARRIOR,
Stephen Hannemann’s first published novel, seems to be a bit of
a Renaissance Man, he simply mirrors the experiences and exploits of his
creator.
Born in Portland, Oregon, Stephen’s first career was in building
patterns for the foundry industry, injection molds for the plastics industry
and dies for the die casting industry. He eventually owned his own company,
producing models and prototypes for major electronics and industrial design
firms.
A love of fine art led him to create and sell wood sculpture, and he and
his wife owned an art gallery. As for his literary talents, while once
inspired by a high school English teacher to write short stories and poetry,
Stephen admits to never having read a novel until 1992, while recuperating
from back surgery. That book rekindled his passion for writing. DEATH
of a WARRIOR is just the first of many planned works, including
a sequel to WARRIOR and a historical novel set
during the War of 1812.
To create a protagonist who knew his way around boats, guns, and hand-to-hand
combat, Stephen drew on his own avocational pursuits. He has been around
boats for four decades, water ski racing and rebuilding boat engines.
A life-long love affair with guns prompted him to learn how to shoot high-power
rifles and hand guns, and he has competed in combat handgun contests.
He also studied ballistics and loaded his own specialized ammunition for
long-range shooting. A stint in the Multnomah County (Portland, Oregon)
Sheriffs Reserve Academy gave him essential insights into law enforcement.
